Hand painted kitchen Moscow Russia: We were commissioned to paint this large hand painted kitchen in Moscow and were sent elevation drawings to enable us to work out what materials would be needed and the time scale required to complete the project. Once all the paperwork had been completed and visas received, our journey began. Hand painted kitchen Moscow Russia

Arriving in Moscow airport, we picked up the hire car and headed off to the hotel – the only problem was that the sat nav was not working and believe me, Moscow is not the easiest place to drive around when you can’t read any of the signs!

First day on site

We arrived at this palatial home where artisans from around the world had been contracted to complete the many projects on this new building. The work was still ongoing as we started in the kitchen but due to the size, we weren’t tripping over each other. We started off by stripping down all the furniture from the units, taping the interiors and protecting the floor.

For a large kitchen, you need a large cooker!

Using two pack filler we proceeded to fill up all large holes and dents. We then gunned in all joints using acrylic caulk and a small filling knife which kept the profile. Because of flying, we had limited kit so sanding was done without extraction – after a little more cleaning up we were ready to start painting.

We coated the kitchen using Otex High Performance Adhesion Primer which is a matte, quick drying special resin based primer and undercoat for use on interior and exterior surfaces. It is suitable to prime wood, glass, tiles, glassfibre, hard PVC, aluminum, zinc coated sheet metal and surfaces previously coated with alkyd or acid catalysed paints. It can also be used as a stain blocking primer.

When it dried, a halogen lamp highlights the defects that may need filling with a fine surface filler. We used sanding pads to nib down the filler and paintwork and after a good vacuum and clean with a tack rag, we began applying the top coats.

Producing a virtually brush free finish

For the top coats, we used Feelings Furniture Paint which is exceptionally tough with a semi matte finish. After stirring the paint thoroughly, we would normally dilute by 5% with water and add a little Fair Decor. Using a damp cloth, we wiped the area to be painted and applied the paint using a synthetic brush and flock roller from My Paint Brush after which we lay off with the tips of the brush.

Once painting was complete, we removed all the protection and cleaned up.

This kitchen was for the clients to use and in the room next door. Well there was also a kitchen for the chefs.
