Hand Painted Kitchen Dornoch Scotland: We were commissioned by Mark Wilkinson Furniture to paint and apply paint effects to a kitchen in Scotland. We started by having a meeting with the client and their designer in the client’s London home. The client and designer had very exact ideas of what they wanted us to achieve. The first stage was to produce an array of samples for their approval and once these were agreed, the van was loaded up and we were off to Scotland. Hand Painted Kitchen Dornoch Scotland
Clients holiday home
After a very scenic drive, we arrived at the client’s beautiful holiday home.
First day on site
The client and designer flew up to meet us on site and continued to fly up every Tuesday to see the kitchen in progress. As with all kitchens, we started off by stripping down the furniture from the units, taping up the interiors and protecting work surfaces and floor areas with 1000 grade lining paper. We label all drawers and components that we remove, so that it makes it much easier when replacing everything. Hand Painted Kitchen Dornoch Scotland
Preparation of a bespoke kitchen
Using two pack filler, we proceeded to fill up all large holes and dents. We gunned in all of the joints using acrylic caulk and a small filling knife which kept the profile. Using our Festool dust extraction units, we proceeded to sand smooth all areas to be painted and after vacuuming the units, we used a tack rag to remove any last traces of dust, leaving every surface ready for painting. Painting base coats on a kitchen
We applied the first coat of Feelings Primer Undercoat furniture paint by Tikkurila which was supplied by Holman Paints. Once this had dried, we used a halogen lamp to highlight any defects which were filled using ready patch fine surface filler. We used sanding pads to nib down the filler and paint work and after a good vacuum and clean with a tack rag, we then applied the second base coat. Hand Painted Kitchen Dornoch Scotland
Bed & Breakfast in Scotland
The client had booked us into a bed & breakfast in Dornoch that she used when visiting the site. Over the last 20 years I’ve stayed in so many hotels and B & B’s that I’ve lost count, but I must say this is one of the best places I have ever stayed. Evelyn the owner went the extra mile to make our three week stay so special in such a beautiful setting. So once again Evelyn, thank you so much for making our stay so pleasant. I would highly recommend a stay at Kyleview House.
Applying paint effects to the kitchen
We hand mixed all the colours need into Feeling Paint Effects clear glaze. These were applied and dragged until several layers were built up to produce a depth of colour. Areas were rubbed back using a silicone free cutting compound to produce a slightly distressed look. We then applied two coats of Kiva Lacquer.
